Unconscious Patient

Opiate overdose (fentanyl), Low blood sugar, Post-Seizures, and Head Trauma (assault) are the most common causes.

Call EMS - 911

1. Possible overdose - given nasal narcan

2. If no vital signs, start CPR

3. Insulin Dependent Diabetic - check a fingerstick glucose

4. Bleeding, Gross Trauma, Head Injury, Bodily Deformity.  Put pressure on the bleeding site immediately.  Stabilize the injured part.  Move as little as possible until EMS arrives.

5. Do not move the head and neck if there is possible spine injury.

6. If seizures, position the patient to avoid trauma to the patient, protecting the head from banging against something.

7. Stabbings - do not attempt to move the knife or shank. More bleeding or injury is likely.

Locate your AED device.  Know how to use it.
